Cheers To More Sleep!

CONFUSION, A LITTLE MORE CONFUSION AND EXTRA-CONFUSION!

Honestly, how could it not be a confused week when it began on a Tuesday? Like a whole school board was like let us give them one extra Monday to sleep, wake them up on Tuesday, and tell them to report for work? Crazy stuff.

Look, for a person who was whining the whole of October about how she could not wait to start internship, the first week was just buckets of drama after drama. Firstly, blame the school internship supervisor, that woman cannot communicate. You will get familiar with her as you get to read a lot more of this stuff, so yes turn on your notifications because the drama pours.

DON’T BE FUNNY WITH MY MONEY, HONEY!

How I would love to say this to the damn government because all this paperwork and ink smudges all over my hands for nothing feels like a truckload of physical  abuse (financial abuse rather). Everytime I am in a lift (by lift I mean a car not an elevator) to work I be looking out of the window feeling very much like the ancestors felt in ferries that took them to the Americas, very much like a slave. Now that I have said something about slaves, I remember this one time when I used to kind of flirt with this guy I kind of fancied and his idea of taking it a bit far was telling me that I reminded him of sweet slave girls from slave movies who occasionally gave it to the master. I asked him if that was supposed to turn me on, he said, “Yea, call me Master Daddy”. I ran for dear life. And now it is the government demanding my drudgery in exchange for knowledge and a mark on the transcript. Hear me out! I am not saying knowledge is not inspiration enough to wake up in the morning, I am simply saying money and inspiration have always been used interchangeably since Egypt dominated the world.

YES MA’AM, COCONUT IS A PERSON!

You all knew coconut is a derogatory term and did not think to tell me about that? Ooh I am so mad! Scrap that off! I know fairly well what the term coconut means, I mean I watched Dear People and know that Coco used to get so mad when someone called her a coconut. But for that term to be used on me, wow! That’s not something I could have seen coming, binoculars on too. So here is me minding my business because it is my first week of work, girl you read the room in silence, smile a lot, do not say much, give little neutral comments( because office politics is real, mama taught me that and she was right). There is me spitting the ‘good mornings’ and the ‘how are you(s)’ and the ‘please(s)’ occasionally because politeness is a virtue, you do not need to go to church to know that. But you know what does not pay, being nice to people but even worse, expressing that politeness in English because COCONUT is your new name. I mean a food based insult of all insults, c’mon guys. I have never even heard a coconut, I mean they could have said Oreo at least I love the Oreo krusher. Like really, this is me loudly expressing the love of my dreadlocks from the very first moment I stepped in that office and you are going to call me Coco. At least after that they had the decency to use that name behind my back because this black woman who is not Coco was not having it.

MY ABILITY TO GET IN TROUBLE IS WAY TOO ATTRACTIVE TO IGNORE!

Honestly, what can I do but embrace myself and all my drama, I mean the drama that embraces me? Somehow, trouble finds me even in darkness because darkness is a lantern. Anyway, work trouble is a different kind of trouble because that is something you do not want to get involved in, however temping it is. Except this woman is besties with Sir Trouble! So here I am minding my business and being highly opinionated as always because my opinions are my business.  I say that I do not think the people here are really passionate about their jobs, intended target on mind. No one is riled up by that because it is true anyway. So I decide to act. Do not report me to the police, please! This woman is sentenced to pay some extraordinarily huge amount of money before a certain date which is like 2 weeks away and community service on top of that. I am a Christian, so I am obviously not okay with that but in this place I do not have a voice because I am just an intern. So it is Christian me fighting Student me, the Christian won because the battle is for the Lord y’alls. I should not say this because it will get me in trouble but then it is a testimony of how God works wonders through his people planted in various government offices to help those oppressed by government in government institutions. I changed the payment date to 2 months away. I have done my fair share of helping the helpless in a way that I can, with a pen (again, please do not call the police, I was just helping a neighbour).

ADULTS HAVE NO ‘HALF-DAY’ FRIDAYS, KID!

Honestly, the default setting that I have always known since I was a child is that whatever it is that you do, on a Friday you clock off at exactly 1300hrs if not 1200hrs. What happened to all work and no play makes Jack (whoever Jack is, he is me) a dull boy? How many of you here can truly say they are okay working full day on a Friday? Not that I am lazy or something but let us not change the natural order if things, okay. I just think that there is no better day or time on earth to appreciate God’s creation of sleep other than a Friday afternoon because that Friday afternoon nap hits different. I honestly believe that of all God’s creations, we give the least credit to sleep.

So here is to sleep, more sleep and to a little more sleep!
