The Lone Advocate v A Pack of Prosecutors And Their Boss and The Guardian of Justice

JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED When I was assessed at the end of public practice, the lady assessor asked me if there was anything I did not like about the way things were done at the courts. I cited quite a number of things, the broken chairs, and rotting ceilings of course but what I really wanted to talk about was how I do not like the fact that accused people were just remanded without justification at all. Let me break it down to you; when a person is suspected of having committed an offence, he is arrested and should be brought before a Magistrate within 48 hours. Now, when he appears before a Magistrate, he is either remanded out of custody or in custody while investigations are being conducted into his alleged offence. Remand whether in or out of custody should not exceed a fortnight but a Prosecutor can apply for an extension at the end of the remand if investigations are not yet complete. This is a process that can go on for years, with remand being renewed every two w...

LAUGHS FOR MARKS!

OF BOSSES AND PARENT PRIVILEGES! Honestly, I thought fake laughing was only reserved for parents, at that time when you want to ask for money knowing very well that there are very slim chances of that happening. Alas! I was super wrong, bosses are like sixth parents after aunties, older siblings, neighbours, and the elderly in the bus; especially if you are on internship. And they are not just ordinary parents like all these other parents.   They are parents without responsibilities, just privileges and believe me, those privileges are used up to exhaustion. There is no problem with being sent on little errands like fetching water, exchanging the phone on a charger with a power bank, or passing on a pen. In those little areas, I scored 100% no doubt because I did them to perfection. No grumbling. No inside cursing. I could even have offered to comb some wigs I saw in the office which looked like Michelangelo's Horned Moses.   But; Certain errands certainly went beyond ...

Cheers To More Sleep!

CONFUSION, A LITTLE MORE CONFUSION AND EXTRA-CONFUSION! Honestly, how could it not be a confused week when it began on a Tuesday? Like a whole school board was like let us give them one extra Monday to sleep, wake them up on Tuesday, and tell them to report for work? Crazy stuff. Look, for a person who was whining the whole of October about how she could not wait to start internship, the first week was just buckets of drama after drama. Firstly, blame the school internship supervisor, that woman cannot communicate. You will get familiar with her as you get to read a lot more of this stuff, so yes turn on your notifications because the drama pours. DON’T BE FUNNY WITH MY MONEY, HONEY! How I would love to say this to the damn government because all this paperwork and ink smudges all over my hands for nothing feels like a truckload of physical  abuse (financial abuse rather). Everytime I am in a lift (by lift I mean a car not an elevator) to work I be looking out of th...

INTRO NOT OUTRO!

Image
Hello and welcome, This will be the shortest long introduction you have ever read or heard that others read. Welcome to my new series of blog posts, this is as close to getting real up and close with me as you can and no, I am not a Kardashian. I am just a law student with lots of time on her hand because internship is not like it is in the movies or in John Grisham's books. What I mean is, 4 months later, I have not carried a sleeping bag and toothbrush to work, I have not been chased by politicians because I wrote a provocative legal article, I certainly have not kissed my boss (yet), the president has not asked me to be a side chick yet (because a Monica Lewinsky drama is the only drama worth the trouble) and I certainly have not bought a tank of coffee and what are energy drinks by the way? However, quite contrary to expectations, I have made friends (I am really not sure about this but good people say it), I have asked quite difficult questions to difficult people, have helped...
